The Old Fourpenny Shop Hotel

We had a lovely stay in this charming pub hotel. The room was spacious, well cared for and had a good shower, two double beds and a coffee station stocked with plenty. Breakfast was great, and the service throughout was too. We’d happily come back.

From the outside it looks like a small pub, but there’s a lot more space once you get in, a bit like the Tardis. I can only speak to the decor, drinks and service. Friends ate here, but I didn’t, and I didn’t see the rooms either. The pub was clean, the drinks were decent, and staff were quick, friendly and attentive. They also kept the area tidy by clearing away empty glasses. It was busy with people eating, so I’d probably book ahead when I return for a meal.

The chicken burger was one of the nicest I’ve had in ages. There’s a good range of beer and gin, and our barmaid was really friendly. Food and service were both excellent.

After two days working at the NEC Centre, this was a great place to unwind. The rooms were comfortable and spotless, and the bar and restaurant were excellent. The food was first class, and every member of staff we met was warm and professional. We’ll be back. Bob and Maureen
