Emma arranged an afternoon tea for us that was absolutely delicious, and Zed made us delicious breakfasts with plenty of flexibility around our choices. We're back again for my partner's birthday, having stayed before in a four-poster room with a wonderful sea view. The staff are super, and nothing is too much trouble. Zed and Emma are really friendly. Highly recommend.

The Riviera is a family-run guesthouse, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was brilliantly fitted out, with a folder full of local information and suggestions. There's more on their website too. Breakfast is served in a bright, airy room, and the varied choice should suit everyone. We've stayed here before, found it very comfortable, and will certainly return. We'd have no hesitation recommending it to anyone visiting Whitby. It's in a great location.

There's no lift, and my sea-view room was up eight flights of stairs. If that's not a problem for you, it's hard to find better in Whitby. The bed was really comfortable, and I liked the clever ballot box system for ordering cooked breakfast and filling in the customer survey. Breakfast was excellent, especially the perfectly cooked bacon, with coffee and toast available self-service. The place was immaculate throughout, and there was information everywhere, including maps and historic features on the walls, as well as self-promotion from the family who run it. The room folder seemed to cover everything. The family have clearly worked hard for years, and it's paid off.

This was our second visit, and we'll definitely be back. Our room had lovely furnishings, plenty of space and everything we needed. It was a warm, welcoming guest house in a perfect position, with beautiful sea views. The breakfast was delicious. Thank you, Zed and Emma.

We had a great three-night stay in room 2. The large bay window gave us a fantastic view, and there was lots of storage in the room. Emma, Zed and the rest of the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable, and breakfast was included in the price.
