We were all upgraded, which was a lovely surprise, and breakfast was fine with no complaints. The view was amazing and the staff were brilliant, especially Diego and Charlie. Diego helped with all our questions 😂, and Charlie was lovely at checkout, asking about our cultures and learning our language. The bar staff on Wednesday night (18/02/26 @ 21:30) were lovely too, though I didn't get their names. We'll definitely come back on our next visit, and are looking forward to the pool and spa currently being built in the gardens.

I was in my room within minutes of arriving, as it was already ready when I checked in. It was spotless, extremely comfortable, and had an amazing view. The staff were genuinely warm and friendly, always greeting you with a smile. There were some minor maintenance works on a small part of the exterior, but I barely would have noticed if they hadn't told me, and they didn't affect my stay at all. This was my second time at The Belsfield Hotel and I already plan to return in a couple of months. It feels like a home away from home, and it'll stay my first choice for the Lake District.

The building is striking from the lakeside, perched above the gardens, and has plenty of history, dating back to 1845/46. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, and on the whole I had a good stay, so I'd recommend a visit. Still, there were a few letdowns. I'd booked a lake-view room for four nights over Christmas, but it was small and basic. After unsettled nights, I complained that the mattress was too soft. The manager kindly let me see and choose another room, where the mattress was more supportive and I slept much better for the rest of my stay. The evening meals were beautifully prepared and presented. Breakfast from the buffet was less successful: although they tried to keep it hot, the food was practically cold by the time I ate. Table service and cooked-to-order breakfast would be better, though I understand that may not always be feasible. Christmas lunch was disappointing too. The turkey was served as pre-cut, sandwich-style slices instead of carvery style. I understand this saves kitchen time, but little details matter, especially at an expensive price. I also don't think parking should be charged for, as staying here is already quite expensive.

The buffet had what you'd need for breakfast, but it should be warmer, and having just one coffee machine needs looking at. The staff were really nice, the bar had a fantastic Art Deco look, and the room was cosy, with a comfy bed, an exceptional shower and the fastest bath tap I've ever seen 😂. We had room 17, a very large double with the highest ceilings I've ever seen. We were there for two nights, 21st-23rd February. The hotel is being refurbished, but it didn't spoil our weekend as no work was going on then. Parking at £15 a night was another downside. I'd definitely return in summer, when it looks like the garden and grounds would be nice to sit in.

The gardens were a main reason we chose The Belsfield, so finding them completely closed off was a big disappointment. There was no outdoor space for our four children to explore, and no terrace where we could enjoy the view. We'd stayed here before and came back for their half-term break, but I don't think I'd choose to stay again. The hotel should let guests know about the garden closure before they book.
