The handwritten welcome note, custard creams, chocolate bars and colouring books with crayons were a lovely surprise, and the boys were thrilled 😄 The staff were really friendly and helpful throughout, and our clean, tidy room had nothing to fault. We stayed after visiting Legoland Windsor, about 20mi mins away, and the hotel was handy for the M4 on our drive home. This is the best Premier In I've stayed at so far, and I've been to quite a few. I don't usually write reviews, but couldn't find anything to fault. We ate at the Bar and Block steak house with the meal deal and upgrades, and the meal was fantastic. The boys loved the steak from the kids meal, which you don't often see in kids meals. Food came promptly, and the staff were friendly. There was a good drinks selection, including nice IPAs, and the 2 for 1 cocktails were worthy of a cocktail bar. Breakfast was the usual cooked-to-order kind, but tastier than usual, cooked on the steak griddle. Before heading home, we walked around nearby Dinton County Park. A fantastic stay, thank you.

The room was clean and really comfortable, with great shower pressure, no flow limiter on the taps, and aircon that worked well. Free parking and an easy machine check-in were good, though at first there was no staff member available to check us in in person. Until breakfast, I thought this was an excellent Premier Inn. The staff at breakfast were pleasant, but ordering took a while. There was no buffet, which surprised me. I've never been to a Premier Inn without one, not even the hubs, which have a small buffet. They gave us a menu that says breakfast is unlimited, then took it away after we ordered. It doesn't feel likely that people will ask for more once that happens. Our food still came out in good time, despite there being just one person in the kitchen. I imagine made-to-order breakfast helps cut waste, but on weekdays many guests will be business customers in a hurry. I do begrudge the lack of self-service, which I've come to expect at Premier Inn, especially when check-in is mostly self-service too.

The location worked well for Lapland UK in Ascot, about a 20-minute drive away. We stayed four nights. The train station was within walking distance, and the journey to Waterloo took 1 hour 20 minutes. Our rooms were clean, and the staff were very helpful; nothing was a problem. We only ate dinner at Bar & Block once because the menu was limited, but breakfast was good. It was a nice bonus that kids eat breakfast free.

We went for Sunday lunch on our 62nd wedding anniversary, 29th September, but the service was dreadful. We had to keep asking to be served, and two guests were missed from the main course, so they had to wait while everyone else ate. We ordered fish and chips for our two-year-old great-grandson. The fish wasn't cooked properly. We sent it back, but it came back just the same. We used to really enjoy Sunday lunches here, but sadly we'll look elsewhere in future.
