Sturdys Castle

We had a great time celebrating my 50th birthday at sturdys castle with 15 people. Everyone was happy with the food and service, which is always good at the pub restaurant. There are lots of choices across the Indian and pub menus. Thanks!

The room was adequate for our night on a long walk, though it could use a refresh. We slept well in the comfortable beds, and it was very quiet. There was tea-making equipment, but it needed more teabags and milk; the bathroom had a bath with an overhead shower and only one tiny bottle of shower gel. We had to preorder breakfast and choose a time when we arrived. Although we'd booked dinner, there wasn't space in the restaurant, so we ate in the bar, which was fine. The menu has English dishes on one side and Indian on the other. After seeing the nearby table enjoying their Indian food, we ordered that and it was very good. The draft Inches cider was decent, and the servers were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was self-service for juice and cereal, followed by a cooked breakfast and tea brought to the table. The full English was excellent. The food was probably better than the room, but the room did the job.

The meal from the set menu for Valentine's Day was great. We were seated in a room at the back, possibly the old skittle alley, instead of the main restaurant. It was very cold, the radiators weren't on, and some people kept their coats on. That was disappointing. Next time I'd ask for a table in the main restaurant.

The food was very nice at dinner and breakfast, and I’d stay here again. We came for the Blenheim Palace light show and the location was lovely. Most of the staff were lovely too, though one could use a little more training. There were cups, teabags, coffee, and milk in the room but no kettle, and it took nearly 45 minutes to get one. The toilet roll holder was barely hanging on.
