After a night shift at the local hospital, all I wanted was a warm room and some sleep. Instead, the reception made that harder. The woman there was about as welcoming as an ice cube, and she wouldn’t check whether the room might be ready before the official noon check-in time. I’d paid for the room online and only expected to pay a small amount for early check-in, so being told I owed “the balance” was confusing. It turned out to be a refundable security deposit, which is fine, but they should call it that and explain it upfront instead of waiting for a customer to ask. The radiator was stone cold when I got to the room. When I asked how the heating worked on a freezing day, I was just told it was “on a timer.” I had to push the bed out of the way to reach the radiator and switch it on myself. That’s fine, but please explain how it works instead of fobbing me off. The room itself may be OK if you can get through reception.

The hotel is right in the town centre, and the food is great if you decide to eat there. Staff were friendly, the room was great, and the place had a lovely, welcoming feel.

There was plenty of parking, and the staff were helpful. I liked the refurbished room and its pleasant decor. Good breakfast too, and the location worked well.
