Good value for the price, and I’d stay again. Just don’t expect The Ritz. If you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs: the rooms at the back can pick up the sound of the A5. It isn’t loud, but it could still disturb you.

Lynne was lovely and went out of her way to make breakfast enjoyable. The all-you-can-eat breakfast was great. The rooms are very basic, and upstairs gets boiling hot, with no air conditioning or fan. The basic amenities are there, including a shower, bath, kettle and hair dryer.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good. The room was a bit warm, but the place did the job and we had a nice stay. It’s in pleasant surroundings. The restaurant could do with more investment and reopening.

The location makes this a handy hotel for Llangollen, though being right by the main Chirk thoroughfare made for a noisy night. It was the hottest night of the year so far, so we needed the windows open. If it had been cooler, we could have kept them shut, and the location might not have been an issue. The upstairs corner room was stifling when we arrived, but opening windows on two sides helped cool it down. The room was spotless, and the lady at the desk was very helpful and apologetic when things didn’t go to plan. A missing card machine slowed everything down a lot. I’d certainly come back if I need a hotel near Llangollen. One thing to know: despite what the website photos may suggest, they only serve breakfast. There haven’t been meals later in the day for years.
