We had a very good night here on Tuesday. The room was a good size and very clean, breakfast was quite good, and the restaurant staff were fantastic. I had a minor medical issue elsewhere, which delayed our return and our checkout. The staff were immediately understanding and offered us a late checkout without charge. Our train wasn’t until 8:00 that evening, and they kept our bags for free until we were ready, even though we went back to get something out and put something in. They were kind and impressively professional. We’ll stay here again when we’re back in York.

The rooms were fantastic, very large and clean, and I loved the big TV mounted at the end of the bed. We had a safe, kettle, and included drinks. We were visiting a show at the nearby Barbican Theatre and had booked two rooms close to each other for one night. We could check in early because the rooms were ready, and the process was quick and smooth. Staff explained the route to the theatre clearly and gave us a map. They also marked places to eat on it, and told us breakfast would be cheaper if booked before midnight. After dinner, reception greeted us and got us a hot drink when we asked. I slept really well, and the shower and bathroom were good too. They arranged a taxi when we checked out. I’m coming back twice this year and can’t wait. A++++

The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and informative, always with a smile. The location is ideal for reaching the city, and there are useful amenities within five minutes. We stayed for a couple of days with my partner. The room was the weak point: the bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable, and we found a yellow substance in the sink, which was off-putting. On the plus side, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were provided, which was a nice surprise. A good hotel with great staff, but the rooms could use an update.

The breakfast had plenty of choice, and the staff were pleasant. We had a really nice overnight stay in a family room with my husband and two grandsons. I wasn’t sure I’d like the hotel after reading some reviews, but it turned out to be nice and in a fantastic location. The room was clean and pleasant, and the bathroom had a very good shower, plus shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. I’d stay again.

3.5/5 Friendly, helpful staff made the short break better. We picked Holiday in York mainly because the location is so convenient for exploring the city. The hotel feels dated and is showing its age, and general maintenance could be better. During busy periods the shower’s hot water was inconsistent, which was frustrating. Good service and location, but the facilities need attention.
