The Vanguard - York Residence

We needed a room urgently, and the reception team was really helpful over the phone. We’re grateful for their help. The room was clean, spacious and had what we needed for a comfortable stay. We could clearly hear guests in the rooms next door, though, as the soundproofing wasn’t what we expected. Apart from that, we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again when visiting York.

The room was very clean, with a modern en-suite bathroom that felt a bit cramped. It’s a converted two-up, two-down terraced house with remote entry, about a 10-minute walk from York centre. Communication was fine. It felt a little odd being in a terraced house run like a hotel, with nobody there in person to talk to, though I had no problems with that. I paid for parking, then got TWO overdue payment emails even after I sent a screenshot of my mobile banking app as proof, as they’d asked. The parking is off-street, and they don’t have to charge for it, but the house is in a resident permit area, so it’s obviously a way to make a bit of extra money. After I wrote this review, they apologised and assured me the parking issue was resolved.

The owners were really lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotless and a comfortable temperature, with a window you could open if needed. The bed was very comfortable, and it was quiet at night. The shower was spacious and powerful, with plenty of hot water after a day exploring. It’s in a peaceful residential area, an easy ten-minute walk to the nearest city gate. There’s plenty of on-street parking, and the optional off-road parking is well worth it for convenience. Booking was easy, and the arrival instructions for finding the property, with its many one-way streets, and using self check-in were clear. I’d book again without hesitation and highly recommend this peaceful place. Thank you, Shamima and team, for helping make our visit to York so good.

I really enjoyed my stay at Vanguard York. The service was exceptional, and the staff were attentive and polite. The bedrooms were comfortable, the sheets clean, and the bathrooms modern. I’d highly recommend staying here when you visit York!
