Diamond Motel Abilene

The manager was very nice, and I’d picked this place after seeing decent reviews because my usual chain had horrible ones. I still wanted to like it, though I’m not sure why hotels in Abilene cost so much. The bathroom was grungy and needed a good scrub, especially the tub, toilet bowl, and floor. The towels were really worn. The bed kept trying to toss me out: I’m not sure what was wrong with it on the frame, but whenever I got near the edge, the whole mattress tilted. The sheets were stained. Disappointing.

We felt welcome and safe keeping our dog and our things in the room, and bringing the dog didn’t double the cost of the stay. The room was super clean, the bed was comfortable, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout the trip. The TV had lots of movie channels and was tucked out of the way. It wasn’t working when we tried it that night, but the innkeeper came right over and fixed it. He was friendly and helpful the whole time. We arrived late the night before Christmas Eve, and he was gracious and kind while checking us in. Great budget motel, with service that goes above and beyond the corporate chains. We’ll gladly stay again.

It felt safe, and the guy at the front desk was really nice. We were just a few minutes from everything in Abilene, and the rooms and exterior seemed somewhat updated. I liked the look of some older details, but the rust on the bathtub and cute sink was shocking. There were stains on all the linens, including towels, sheets, pillowcases, and bedspread. The room was very cold, much colder than our house, which we keep at 61 degrees. Nearby trains could be loud, though I don’t think there are places to stay in Abilene that aren’t near tracks.

The owner was very courteous, and the beds were super comfy. Our dated room was clean, and I liked having a fridge and microwave in it. We didn’t get any bath towels, though. It’s your typical small town motel, just as the reviews suggested.
