I was stranded after my car ran off the road during Winter Storm Gianna, while I was relocating from New Orleans, LA to Raleigh, NC. A GPS detour during a 100-car pile-up on I85N left me unsure where I was, and Sheriff Deputies brought people to the hotel. I arrived cold, confused, and lucky to be alive. LaShonda and Crysta at the desk quickly made me feel safe. They handled another couple whose car had hit a pole just as kindly and efficiently, even though the hotel was very full and other guests needed help too. The staff kept checking on our cars and situations. When I needed a toothbrush, they sorted it out, and Ariana from housekeeping helped with towels. Aaron from maintenance tried to find help for my stuck car. Craig offered to drive people to meet tow trucks, gave a stranded woman a ride, and helped us with directions, back roads, and weather information. On the second storm night, with closures all around, Crysta helped us find lunch and dinner options when everything seemed closed. The hotel had frozen meals and snacks, but we needed a real meal, and she used her local knowledge and a reassuring smile to help make it work. She also arranged my second night, and made sure I could check out late. Karissa and Lynda were lovely when I spoke with them about the team, and they continued the same caring hospitality. Karissa and Lynda have built a great team, and everyone worked together to comfort guests and get things done. There was good coffee, cocoa, and tea available around the clock. Miss Mary had an AMAZING FREE breakfast ready in the morning, nicely presented and well stocked. When the bacon ran out, she promptly brought a warm, full replacement. I liked the name brands for yogurt and cream cheese, and the handy pancake maker was fun. The hotel and room were impeccably clean despite the snow. I felt very well looked after, and it eased the stress of being stranded. I’d absolutely stay again, and travelers in Albemarle County would be missing out if they didn’t give this place a try.

Two other vehicles and mine were broken into while I was staying here. I’m out $500 for a window, plus the stress and lost time. The manager never acknowledged the trouble or offered help. The front desk attendant had to be persuaded to call police, said they couldn’t access camera footage at night, and didn’t pull any footage. He also said he wouldn’t go outside for his own safety. There was no urgency or accountability, and the service was extremely disappointing. I won’t come back or recommend this place.

The staff were extremely friendly, patient, and helpful. The rooms seemed clean, but they and the worn main entrance door need attention; it was hard to lock, and the hotel needs renovations. Breakfast started out good, though the coffee machines began having problems and staples like creamer and cinnamon rolls ran out.

I’m checking out today and couldn’t wait to leave this review. We’ve been here since Friday, and there’s been an issue every day. The rooms have large TVs, and breakfast wasn’t too bad, but the potatoes were undercooked and the hours should run later, perhaps to 10-10:30, so travelers can rest. We paid $163 a night, which wasn’t worth it. The elevator was noisy enough that we took the stairs before it was officially declared out of service. A bandaid still covered the room’s peephole when we arrived. The mini fridge had black stuff in the seal, the toilet was disgustingly unclean, and the shower drain was clogged, leaving water around our feet until it was fixed the next night. The tissue box was nearly empty, and the toilet paper fell apart when wet and felt like it could cut you. Today the shade control stopped working, so we can’t get natural light in the room.

I want to mention that manager Linda isn’t communicative. When my mother visited from another state, I saw associates look at her instead of greeting her. A manager’s role matters in making returning customers feel welcome. Clarissa was amazing last night, and if she isn’t the manager, I highly recommend her for her steady attitude.
