The building's a bit dated, but that gives it some charm. Our kitchenette room had no light over the dining table, so we moved a lamp there, and there were only two forks for a four-person room. We made it work. The staff were super friendly, the pool area and breakfast room were great, and the elevator is fun. You'll see why.

The pool area was really nice, and the heart-shaped hot tub's unusual jets kept us entertained for quite a while. Beds and pillows were comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. There was hair along the bathroom floor edges and on the tub rim, so it could've been cleaner. A decent hotel overall.

The room was clean, uncluttered, and comfortable, and the indoor pool looked very inviting. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of hot choices and pastries. Service was excellent, too. We only stopped for the night on our way to Denver, but what a gem. The beds could use better pillows. Worth it!

The hotel is well equipped, good value, and the staff were all lovely and helpful. Even when I needed dollar bills changed for the vending machines, they took it as a chance to chat instead of acting bothered. The machines were reasonably priced, with a tin of 'liquid' for $1.25 instead of $3 or $4. There are shops and restaurants nearby, including a large Walmart within walking distance. I'd happily stay here again and again. It's also a great base for exploring this stunning area. From here you can reach Mesa Verda Park and the cave houses, Quray, Silverton, and Million Dollar mountain Highway, about a 2.5-hour drive, or longer on the seasonal Durango steam train and bus. The views on the way are stunning, 11 out of 5. South Park, whether you know the cartoon or Telluride, is another hour away by car. Moab Arches via the four Corner Monument is 2 hours 15 minutes away, and Monument Valley via Forest Gumps Point is 2 hours 30 minutes, both within range for an easy day trip.

Clean, fresh bedding and bathroom, and a decent breakfast kept this from being a one-star stay. But the room needs major renovation, really every part of it. The toilet was tiny and low like one in a grade school restroom, a bad fit for an older man with back issues. Most of the toilet seat's beauty covers were missing. The closet door was barely attached, the furniture and walls were banged up, the carpet stained, and some AC control buttons didn't work. Not worth the price.
