The Querque Hotel

The Querque hotel has a mix of resort-like touches and budget-motel drawbacks. Its location is in a rough part of town, right where two freeways meet, though parking lot security helped me feel safer. The heated indoor pool and weight room are very nice, and the rooms have tasteful decor and better furniture than you’d find elsewhere. The air conditioning kept up well with the room and controlled the temperature effectively. The bathrooms have no fans, and the continental breakfast was limited, with no protein options. I stayed for a few days while my floors were being redone.

I’ve stayed here four times in the last three months while traveling between Texas and Utah, and never had trouble until tonight. They suddenly wouldn’t accept the same card I’d used every other time, and over the $50 refundable fee I nearly couldn’t get a room. The manager came through, thankfully, or my kids and I might have had to sleep in the car. Do better.

The room was plain, but very clean, and I had no complaints about it. Even though the hotel is near the freeway, the location was quiet, probably because it’s set back from the main road. I felt safe alone in the parking lot and didn’t see anyone suspicious hanging around. For an affordable price, it’s a quality hotel.

The rooms were clean and nice, and the price was good, but several things didn’t match what was advertised. There was no in-room coffee maker, the WiFi didn’t work at all, and the shower wouldn’t drain properly. A steady whirring sound came from the mini-fridge. The hotel is in a bad part of town, so walking anywhere isn’t really an option. Three out of five.
