Best Western Old Colony Inn

Alexandria, VA is beautiful, and this hotel made getting around easy. The free shuttle took us to the airport, subway station, and downtown, and we used it every day. Our room was comfortable, breakfast was included, and the manager was very friendly. King Street’s shops, the Potomac River, and the airport are all nearby. There are quite a few stairs, with no elevator: about three flights to the second floor, plus stairs down from the lobby to breakfast. That could be a problem if you can’t manage stairs. My shower floor was also very slick, and I fell twice. A grab bar or non-slip surface would help. It isn’t handicap friendly, but I still enjoyed the hotel, staff, and town.

Breakfast was a real plus, with waffles you make yourself, scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, bagels, and more. The room was clean and nice, and the staff were wonderful. The shuttle made it easy to get to the metro and saved us from driving into town for dinner, since they could drop us off and pick us up. We had a wonderful stay this past week and will come back next time we visit DC.

We loved the Christmas decorations and thought this was a great value. There’s a decent parking lot and a small covered area, though parking around King Street can be hard to find if you drive there for the restaurants. A pub and a few other places to eat are just a short walk away, and the neighborhood seemed very nice. This was our first stay. The rooms were very nice, while the older bathrooms were simple but clean and functional. Plenty of hot water and strong water pressure. The upstairs snack room had lots of options, but our work crew mostly used the coffee machine and got ice cream sandwiches and drumsticks from the freezer.

The hotel was clean, even though it isn’t new, and the shuttle to the airport and downtown was a real bonus. Breakfast was good, and every employee we dealt with was very kind and helpful. It was also centrally located for our event. I’d happily stay again.
