Teton Teepee Lodge

We left right away and got a refund after booking online. My father-in-law told the owner she'd basically lied online about the amenities and layout, and she agreed. We'd just moved to the state and wanted a memorable trip with my husband and in-laws, who had traveled a long way from Switzerland. Instead, the rooms were a joke and we got a bad feeling as soon as we arrived. There was a big loose dog roaming around. The whole building is a circle, with room doors all around it, so there's no privacy when you enter or leave your room. The skinny doors open onto three steps down into a hole in the wall, with another swinging door. The lock is just a click lock. There was a stain on the towels, and only one towel for my husband and me, and one for my in-laws. When my mother-in-law pointed out the stain, the owner said, “it’s just a small stain..” For $300 a night, I expected better service and quality. There are no TVs in the rooms and no AC. The windows also had a gap, which meant limited privacy. Terrible customer service.

The breakfast was lovely: homemade baked goods, fruit salad, and all the usual continental options. There's a shared fridge and microwave for leftovers, plus tea and leftover breakfast muffins available all the time. The owners were around to make sure we were comfortable, and their sweet dog hung out too. We were changing hotels during the trip and chose Teepee lodge for our longest stay, three nights at the start of October. I wish we'd stayed for the whole trip. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and so soundproof, with an extra door to close off the common area. The hour's drive from the Tetons was worth it. We could relax and enjoy our evenings instead of dealing with a hectic, overpriced town closer to the park. Hope we can stay again.

We've stayed here a few times while skiing at nearby Targhee ski hill, and every visit has been wonderful. The rooms are quiet behind their soundproof doors, with comfy mattresses, nice bedding, and heated bathroom floors. The common room has a soaring ceiling, a beautiful central fireplace, plenty of comfy chairs and couches for reading, and tables ready for cards, games, and laughter.

The owners are great hosts and are happy to provide whatever you need. The rooms are arranged around a central common space. They're on the small side, but big enough and comfortable, and there's lots of seating and tables in the main area where people can hang out. It's a striking, unusual building, unlike anything you're likely to find elsewhere: a circular common area beneath a soaring beam ceiling, with a massive fireplace and chimney in the middle. A unique structure and a unique experience.
