For $97, it was a decent, fairly cheap stay, especially for a Candlewood. Some parts of the hotel do feel old, as other reviews say. I'd hesitated because of those reviews, but hotels on the other side of town weren't much better and seemed a little lower quality. My room, 421, was clean, quiet, and had no bugs. WiFi and AC both worked well. The pillows were large and soft, the blanket was good, and the mattress was firm. The TV was small. The main plus was that there was no car theft, despite a few reviews mentioning it. I stayed 2-4-26, and it was a good stay.

I couldn't use any of my accumulated points for a free night, and paying for this stay left me wanting my money credited back. What good are rewards if you can't use them? As a Diamond member, I also felt ignored by the unfriendly front desk staff. The room itself was in poor shape: a filthy chair, badly mismatched paint patches, and a tub that wouldn't drain, leaving me standing in 5 inches of water after a shower. There was no stopper for the sink either. They'd even run out of bottled water for guests. This was an extremely disappointing stay at Candlewood Suites in Amarillo, Texas, and I don't recommend it.

The room was huge, comfortable, and clean, and the bed was one of the best I've slept on in any hotel. Everything, including the receptionist, was excellent.

I liked having a kitchenette, with a microwave, counter stove, fridge, dishwasher, and basic cooking gear and silverware. I picked this IHG hotel for the fridge on my cross country trip, though I'm more used to staying at Holiday Inn Express. I missed the hot breakfast at Holiday Inns. Here they just had a pantry with snacks, coffee, and oatmeal. The room was clean but a little dated and could use a refresh, unlike the freshly remodeled Holiday Inns I usually stay at. It was affordable, and the property was clean and well lit, so I felt fine parking my car overnight. There were mostly construction workers staying there, with plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. I'd consider staying again.
