Homewood Suites by Hilton Amarillo

Anita at breakfast was such a welcoming start to the day. She was friendly and made us feel like we’d picked the right place before we’d even had coffee. The room was clean and comfortable after a long day on the road, and the rest of the staff were great too. I did spend a while hunting for the ceiling fan remote, with no luck. That little mystery aside, we had a great stay and I’d come back, hopefully with a remote appearance next time.

The doors slamming shut kept waking me up. Management should have maintenance adjust the closers so they shut softly. Apart from that, this is a comfortable place for a long stay, with nice rooms and a location convenient to most things.

There was a nail sticking up from the floor that caught my foot by the bathroom, so I ended up wearing shoes in the room. I mentioned it to the front desk as I left. The location is good, but I don’t plan to return. I was in the middle of a cross-country move. Four days before the stay, I booked the wrong date, noticed right away, canceled, and rebooked for the correct day a minute later. I didn’t realize I was outside the five-day cancellation window. I stayed as planned, then found I’d been charged for both bookings. The desk wouldn’t refund the mistaken reservation, even though I stayed at the hotel and it hadn’t lost a room. Edit, 2/24/26: The owner added another welcome bonus to my awards status, worth less than the points from the stay. If they contact me directly and refund my card, I’ll raise the rating.

My flight from Dallas was canceled on Monday morning because of the winter storms, along with many others, so I couldn’t reach the hotel. I called that morning to cancel my Monday, January 26 and Tuesday, January 27 reservations. They said the late cancellation meant I’d be charged one night. I explained it was weather beyond my control, but they said policy applied. It took more than 24 hours and another call before I could reach a manager. The manager said the weather notice had come earlier, so I could have canceled sooner. I told them I’d been preparing to travel until the airline canceled my flight. They still refused an exception. The general manager also said no, despite my being a Diamond member. I’ve been a Hilton Diamond member for years and stay at Hilton properties several days each month. I’d stayed at this hotel before, too. This is a terrible way to treat a loyal customer dealing with a storm-related cancellation. Management showed no compassion or empathy, and seemed concerned only with charging me for a night I couldn’t control. I won’t stay here again. I don’t recommend doing business with this property.
