Hyatt Place Amarillo-West

Breakfast costs extra unless you have Hyatt Explorist, Discoverist, or Globalist status, but I thought the food was worth it. There were fresh, plentiful choices, including healthy options, and the hot and cold items were served at the right temperatures. For a breakfast that isn’t in a restaurant, it offered a good range beyond packaged food and carbs. The whole place, including the breakfast area, was clean. It was also quiet and comfortable, and the staff were friendly.

The room was spotless and suited our family well, and we slept comfortably. Breakfast was a daily treat, with good waffles and other things everyone liked. Amy was attentive, polite, and checked that guests were doing all right. Rachel, though, seemed irritable. When an older woman told her the coffee was out, Rachel barely acknowledged her and didn’t offer help or reassurance. Amy eventually came over and handled it well after I stepped in. The place was clean and well organized, and we enjoyed our stay, but service varied a lot. Everyone working with guests should be attentive and keep a positive attitude. That inconsistency left us with mixed feelings.

We usually choose Holiday Inn Express or Home2, and this hotel was on par with them, except breakfast costs extra. It was convenient for us and not much more, though the food was the usual hotel breakfast you find at places that include it. The room had two queen beds and a sofa bed, comfortable beds, modern furnishings, and no carpet apart from a rug by the sofa. The temperature was just right without adjusting the thermostat. I’d have liked more counter space and a better bathroom layout: the tub was very shallow, and the door swung into the vanity area.

Getting around on foot isn’t ideal here, whether you’re looking for restaurants or just somewhere to walk. The rooms, though, were fantastic: very clean, brand new, and modern. I especially liked the comfy couch, the 65-inch WiFi-enabled TV, and the lighting.
