The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island

We look forward to our December visit to The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island every year for a medical conference. The Christmas trees and decorations make the resort feel festive without being too much, and the location is handy for biking to coffee shops and other nearby spots. The grounds are beautifully designed, with a good mix of comfort and luxury, and so many amenities that we rarely feel the need to leave. After long conference days, the on-site restaurants are convenient and consistently good. The pool and gym are clean, roomy, and well equipped. We also like renting bikes and choosing from the many fitness classes. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and well kept, and staff kept the toiletries replenished. The complimentary bottled water is a useful, thoughtful touch. I’d recommend a waterfront room for those stunning ocean views. We did have a problem with room service. It took a long time, and the salad that arrived was wrong. When we called for a replacement and more dressing, the extra dressing never came. The team did offer a complimentary dessert to make things right. That aside, this is a consistently high quality resort we’re glad to return to each year, for work or leisure.

I was there for one night in the off season, and the value just didn’t feel right. The room had an old Hyatt sort of feel, and the hotel itself seems dated. The inside shops were nice, and I thought the food was good. I’ve stayed at plenty of Ritz, Kempinski, Mandarin, Regis, and other hotels, and this was the most disappointing for the price. Maybe I’m not rich enough to pay $800 for a standard room. I don’t think I’ll return.

I went for a conference and really liked the quiet room and beautiful coastline view. The gym was top notch, and I would’ve liked to use the pool too. It was warm and had lanes for lap swimming. You can get to the beach easily, and people who used the spa seemed to enjoy it. Service was high quality. On our last night, the waitress at the bar was very kind when we got a drink and dessert. I’d consider staying again if I visit Amelia Island.

Riding a bicycle over the bridge and along the trails where the Timucuan people once lived was so peaceful, and a great way to explore the area’s history. We also went during sea turtle season and got to see nests being protected in the sand, which was special for nature lovers. The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island has gorgeous beaches and a beautiful golf course. The pool had a fun atmosphere, and we enjoyed the Mexican-inspired food while relaxing in the sun. Dinner at the 5-star restaurant was incredible. A lovely mix of history, comfort, and luxury.
