Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Lansing-Leavenworth

The staff were warm and friendly, and the rooms were very clean. The shower head was amazing. But the pool and Jacuzzi had apparently been under construction for months, according to older reviews. That wasn’t mentioned on the website, which promotes the pool as an amenity. It feels like a slimy way to do business. They called two days before our holiday-weekend check-in to say the pool and Jacuzzi wouldn’t be available, too late for us to book somewhere else. I’m sure they knew earlier. Breakfast around 8 a.m. was sparse: some scrambled eggs and a few bread options, and the rest of the food wasn’t replenished.

Jennifer was lovely and very helpful when we checked in. The room was great, and breakfast was better than at any other place we’ve stayed. The workers were amazing. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a clean room and polite staff.

The room was laid out nicely, with a separate living room and bedroom, plus a mini-fridge and microwave. It looked clean at first, but after a couple of days it started to smell like feet. The bathroom had no soap, and the bedroom ceiling smoke detector was missing. The desk clerk gave me soap and said maintenance would check the detector. I reported it every day during my trip, but it still wasn’t fixed when I checked out. The desk handled check-in well and quickly replaced one of my room keys. I wasn’t told at check-in that service was reduced, and I had no maid service during the stay. There was no complimentary breakfast either. The hotel is on a main road, but getting an opening to turn left onto it can take several minutes. It does have accessible parking and access. I was really disappointed, though there aren’t many choices around Fort Leavenworth.

The staff were nice, and the location is handy, with a few fast-food places, a gas station, and a Dollar General nearby. It was fine for a one-night stay, but the price felt high given the hassles. The hotel was noisy because it’s being renovated and, I believe, changing to Hilton. My first room hadn’t been cleaned, so they moved me. The vending machines didn’t work, even though staff said they did, and I lost four dollars.
