Comfort Inn and Suites Ames near ISU Campus

It was one of the worst nights I’ve ever had in a hotel. We booked two king suites more than 30 days in advance, but were told at arrival that they’d overbooked and could only give us one regular double-bed room. They didn’t reimburse us for the price difference. The room they gave us was on the second floor, with the third floor above. People up there stomped and slammed doors all night, and the poor insulation meant we heard everything. The second-floor hallway smelled so strongly of sewage that some of it got into the room. In the morning, the elevator had a strong weed odor. The heating system was all or nothing. With it off, the room got cold fast, and with it on, the temperature went over 90 degrees. We’d only meant to stay one night, but after this experience we’ll never stay here, or at any Comfort Inn and Suites, again.

For about $100, the price was right and I’ve got nothing bad to say about the place. The rooms were clean, and check-in was easy. The staff were very nice and helpful.

My wife and I felt genuinely looked after by the front desk from the moment we arrived. As healthcare workers, we especially appreciated how kind and accommodating everyone was. This was one of our best hotel experiences. It was also our first impression of the people of Ames, and we couldn’t have felt more welcome. A special shout-out to Joe in management and the front desk staff!

The front desk staff were friendly, but breakfast was very cheap. The yogurt ran out, and there was never an attendant in the area. Breakfast needs to improve.
