Motel 6 Amherst, NY - Buffalo

The staff were kind throughout, and they let me check out after 3. There were no bugs, including bed bugs, and the noise was what you'd expect: sometimes dogs barked, but at other times it was very quiet. The room had a fridge and TV, though the Wi-Fi barely worked most of the time, and I wish there'd been a microwave. Our room probably wasn't clean when we arrived the first night, but they made up for that. I enjoyed my stay, and you can't beat the price. If something comes up, they'll try to fix it.

On this visit, my mom and her friend felt uncomfortable and unsafe. People hanging around the entrance approached and bothered them as they came in, and unfamiliar people were also walking through the lobby and hallways. Loud guests made it hard for them to rest. They raised their concerns several times, especially about a man outside who made them feel unsafe, but nothing was done. The staff have always been kind and polite, and their first stay was okay. They visit me every few months, and that earlier experience was why we felt comfortable booking a second time. Still, safety should be a priority at a hotel. We won't book here again, and I hope the hotel improves its safety measures and monitoring so guests can feel secure.

The room was clean and the motel itself was good, with a good location. I hate leaving a bad review, but I'm still waiting for my deposit a week after checking in. I called and had trouble understanding the accent; from what I could make out, I was told to wait two weeks. It's only for one night, so why does it take that long, and what happens to the deposit?

Finding another place took us over an hour, but hotels nearby were sold out because of the Bills game. We ended up buying an air mattress, bedding, and towels at Walmart just to get through the night. That's how unlivable our room felt. The room was on the second floor, with stained linens, dirty floors, walls and furniture, and generally poor upkeep. The shower curtain liner was torn, and the curtains didn't cover the whole window, so a streetlight shone right in. The whole property felt run down and unsafe. The reception area looked nothing like the photos, and staff were behind protective glass with security cameras all over the property. Being by the interstate made it easy to get around, but we could hear the traffic. This was the worst hotel stay we've had. I don't understand how it got so many 5-star reviews. Avoid it.
