Anchorage Uptown Suites-Condos

We had two full flights of stairs to haul our heavy luggage up since there’s no elevator. The hotel is rated 2-star, which seems fair given its location and exterior. What earned it four stars for me was the staff: the young woman at reception greeted us with a smile and spoke clearly, and a housekeeper we passed was upbeat, smiling, and told us to ask if we needed anything. Our room was extremely clean.

These feel like gently used one-bedroom condos that are now rented by the day. They worked perfectly for our cooking and sleeping needs, and the price was great. The area can be a little off-putting, but be brave and you may be glad you stayed, like we were. Natalie was kind and helpful. Thanks.

The staff were friendly, but getting our bags upstairs was a struggle since there’s no elevator and it may be three flights. The first room entry code we got was actually for the room across the hall, which didn’t do much for traveler security. And the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned: there was toilet paper in the toilet, plus a long black hair in the tub.

The kitchen in the full apartment-style suite was nice, but it was missing basics like dish soap and paper towels, and the microwave was broken. That was our second upgrade. First we were offered a suite with a jacuzzi, but there was nowhere to hang clothes and the jacuzzi didn’t work. Would we stay again? There are other local options that seem to offer more for the money.
