A low water pressure issue on the fourth floor was one small drawback, but The Voyager Inn was still a solid Anchorage stay with helpful service and a convenient location across from the Hotel Captain Cook. They’re sister properties, so our room key could have gotten us into the Captain Cook gym, though we didn’t use it. Our clean room had a kitchenette with a microwave and oven, mostly suited to reheating food rather than cooking, plus a Keurig. The machine took a bit of figuring out, but I liked the generous pod selection, with different coffees, green tea, and decaf.

Khalid handled check-in and was courteous and professional all the way through our stay. We’d come back, especially for the location, within walking distance of shops and restaurants, and the water views from the room. You can open the window-doors, and the rooms are roomy, almost like studio efficiencies, with a kitchenette and a good-sized bathroom. Beds and linens were great, but the updates are still a work in progress. The carpets need replacing throughout, and the ventilation system could use a thorough cleaning if possible. I didn’t mind, but my friend’s allergies made it very noticeable. I skipped the gym across the street, though it gets rave reviews. For summer in Anchorage, the price was in line with other mid-range places.

The big plus was free entry to the Captain Cook Athletic Club across the street. The sauna, steam room, pool, and fitness facilities were excellent, and this unmentioned bonus in the booking details made a real difference. Without it, I’d have rated the hotel lower. We were downtown, close to good restaurants, about a 12-minute walk from the train station and a 15-minute Uber ride from the airport. The Voyager Inn itself was just okay over our two nights. The room was spacious and seemed recently renovated, especially the bathroom, but loose wallpaper and a hair in a towel gave a careless impression. The carpet and some furniture looked dated, although the room seemed clean enough and we slept well. The bed was quite firm, which some may like and others may find too hard. We think we were assigned an accessible room, though we hadn’t asked for one, and it worked fine for us. There’s no breakfast. Coffee and tea in the room and lobby were drinkable, and the lobby was small and basic. The hotel is average, but its location and complimentary wellness center access make it worth considering.

We slept well despite a tour group staying at the hotel, and the beds were comfortable with soft, fluffy towels. Our room had a fully equipped kitchenette, and there was hot breakfast and a coffee bar. Staff were helpful when our luggage arrived late at night. The hotel is very walkable to shoreline parks, downtown museums, and shops, and shares some amenities with the Captain Cook across the street. One downside: smoking is allowed in some rooms, and we noticed smoke odor in the hotel even though ours was non-smoking.

For the price, this recently modernised, clean hotel compares well with others nearby. The manager and staff were as helpful as could be, and I’d stay again. The in-room tea and coffee setup could be better.
