SpringHill Suites Anchorage Midtown

The shower needed a good scrubbing, and the carpet had what looked like red fruit juice stains. The couch looked like someone had had sex on it and it hadn’t been cleaned. When I arrived, three guys were getting stoned in the parking lot. The clerk behind the counter wasn’t friendly and acted like I was an inconvenience that night. This was my first Marriott Bonvoy stay, and probably my last. My employer is paying, so I have to stay. If I were paying myself, I’d have checked out and gone somewhere better.

The rooms were decent and fairly comfortable during my weeklong stay, but service really brought the experience down. Breakfast is free, though it was eggs, muffins, and sausage every morning. The AC barely worked, and the water pressure was very low. Cheryl at the front desk was extremely rude and unhelpful. When I asked for towels, she gave me only small ones and wouldn’t provide larger ones until I pointed out the size I had. She seemed more interested in reading her book than helping guests. Housekeeping staff didn’t speak English, which made it difficult to communicate requests. Average at best.

Andrew made check-in easy and was professional throughout. The location is convenient in midtown, with amenities and public transportation fairly easy to reach on foot. The room was a great size, with a pull-out couch and a small kitchen area separate from the beds. It was comfortable and quiet. I only stayed one night, but would have stayed longer if I could. It was on the pricey side, though comparable to similar places during peak tourist season.

The hotel is updated, clean, and close to town. Everyone was nice, especially the housekeeping staff, but the service was very poor when my family and I stayed for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. We stayed three separate times over ten days, and the TV didn’t work on two of those stays. We called the front desk and were told it would be fixed the next morning. When we returned from Anchorage the following evening, it still wasn’t fixed and there had been no update. We called again and were told the service provider was out of state and unavailable until the next day. The TV remained out the next day and for days afterward. Manager Chris Flowers eventually said we’d get a gift card for the trouble, which seemed fair, but it never came. It’s been exactly a month, and my two emails and three calls and messages have all gone unanswered. That’s terrible customer service for such a nice hotel. I wouldn’t recommend it because they didn’t stand by what they said.
