Westmark Anchorage Hotel

The price didn't feel justified, even though I booked a suite. The carpet was sticky, the TV switched itself on in the middle of the night, and the hair dryer sparked and smoked. I told the front desk about all of it and got a joke in response. I chose this place because I expected something nicer than a motel, but it felt motel quality. There were drunks yelling at night, and breakfast was only bread and fruit. I was really disappointed. Go somewhere else.

We stayed in September. The room was clean, and the balcony had a nice view of town. Breakfast was decent, with good cereal and a bagel, though eggs and some kind of meat would've been welcome. The downtown Anchorage location was perfect.

The one thing that worked for us was the walkable location, though there were a lot of homeless people camping nearby. Parking in the hotel lot was $40 a day. We stayed two nights on separate occasions, mainly because of the location and price, but I wouldn't book again. For what you get, it was poor value. Both rooms had broken door locks, though the problems were different, and neither gave us a good night's sleep. The first was fairly clean but smelled so strongly of cleaner that it irritated our throats. The second had trash still in the can and hairs in the shower and on one of the beds. Both rooms were noisy. The place is run down, with chipped paint and cracks outside. The furniture was badly banged up, apart from beds that seemed new, and amenities were extremely bare bones. If you have to stay, I'd make it one night and move on.

The sliding door lock was broken and there was no screen door. The tub caulking looked like a child had done it, one towel was dirty, and our room smelled bad. The rooms weren't properly cleaned or dusted, and the lobby had dusty old couches. The whole hotel smelled like antique furniture. The vending machine had run out of water, and the continental breakfast was very limited and poor quality. It felt like a rip off.
