Best Western Anderson Inn

We were impressed when we got to the room, it was spotless and really spacious. My family of five ended up here at the last minute on our way home from a road trip, and the young woman at the desk, “K,” was so helpful and attentive. We’ll stay again when we’re nearby.

German roaches. That’s all I can say. I didn’t sleep at all, and it looked like they’d been living behind the mini fridge for ages. The owner reluctantly comped my night, but I was supposed to hike Lassen Peak the next day, so my sleep, time, and vacation were ruined. This was in June 2023. I’m only just deleting the photos from my phone to make room. Since then, they’ve lost their Best Western affiliation and seem to have at least painted the place. You can hope the problem is long gone, since this kind of thing can happen.

The staff were really kind, even while dealing calmly with a few people who weren’t so nice at check-in. We came over Memorial weekend with our kids, and the front desk woman had tried calling while we were on the road to tell us the hot water heater and pool were down. They weren’t sure they could fix them over the holiday weekend, but we didn’t get the message until we arrived. She apologized and offered either a discount or a full refund. Everywhere else was full, so we stayed for the discount, and I’m glad we did. The room was nice and clean, the beds were comfy, and the staff were great. After a long hot day in the sun, the shower felt good even though the water was cold, about lake-water cold, not freezing. My husband and the kids liked the hot breakfast while I slept in. The location is handy for shopping and getting on the freeway, and I’d stay again for how friendly the staff were and how well they handled the situation.

Anderson Inn is a dump, and it’s no longer affiliated with Best Western. We got there at 4 p.m. to find the receptionist also doing housekeeping. Room 220 wasn’t ready, so she told us to go have dinner and come back. Once we got in, the bathtub had a hole in it with black mold growing there. I asked to switch rooms, but was told they were full. I’ve tried several times to get management to return my calls and emails, but no one has responded. I don’t recommend this place.
