Hidden Cove RV Resort

Smith’s Lake had some lovely spots, and the property itself is nice, but our stay could have gone a lot better. The biggest issue was a planned electric disconnect that nobody told us about. We only found out when we called the property manager after the power went out. They said it should be back soon, but it was several hours, and a heads-up would have let us prepare. In fall and winter there weren’t activities, and there isn’t anything closer than 30 minutes away. The roads are treacherous, too. The lots in “C” are roomy but unpaved and uneven. Our rig’s auto-level struggled, and it took 20 minutes to sort out. It also dragged while we were leaving “C” and got damaged. Maybe this place is great in spring and summer, but for now I’m leaving this review as it is.

The lake views are beautiful, and the sites have plenty of yard space. A friend stayed in a cabin during her visit, and we were very pleased with it. It had everything she needed. Most of the staff are pleasant to deal with, but the young manager was the one negative at this beautiful campground. In several interactions she seemed like I was bothering her, barely made eye contact, and used an ordering tone when explaining rules. The first time I went out of camp, I was at the gate with all my tags showing but couldn’t find the written gate code in my papers. She came to the office while I sat there and ignored me for quite a while. I finally had to get out and go inside to ask, and she gave me the code with a smirk.

The only real drawback was having no cell or TV signal, not even for a fee. We had to go into town to get service, and we needed to stay in touch with family, so give family and work a heads-up before you lose signal. It does make you put your phones down, though. Apart from that, it was a perfect stay: quiet and friendly, and we’ll definitely come back. The drive takes a few twists and turns, but it’s worth it for the beautiful lake views. There’s an observation point where it was fun to take the pups swimming. The park was well maintained, the hookups were ready to use, the signs were adequate, and the pool was pretty and clean.

Everyone I’ve dealt with so far, from reservations and member services to the welcome center and maintenance, has delivered really high standards of customer service. They’re all so helpful and wonderful. I especially appreciate the extra help from the maintenance staff, since I’m older and have trouble knowing how to do everything I need.
