Highland Inn Arlington

The location right off I-20 is convenient, and it was the cheapest place around, but you get what you pay for. The place is filthy, run down, and the rooms are outdated, dirty, and physically damaged. The lobby is closed, so check-in is through a side window. The front desk staff didn't speak English, so they had to use a phone translator when I checked in.

The first ten minutes in a room are now my golden rule for checking it over. We came back from dinner, started getting ready for bed, and found bedbugs. We grabbed our things and got out of there fast. Since it was so late, the worker either didn't want to refund us or didn't know how. We were able to get our money back, adding one more nightmare to the experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I had stayed here about three years earlier and thought I'd return, but the rooms weren't clean this time and my sheets were dirty. When I asked for clean ones, they moved us to another room. It looked clean when we entered, but then we found the bugs.

There are reportedly multiple rooms shut down after failing city health inspections. Our room had roaches, and the deposit was $30. It might be cheap, but you could go across the street instead of risking a roach-infested room. Maybe the vacant rooms are vacant for a reason. This motel badly needs a makeover.

There was only a desk chair, so there was nowhere else to sit except the bed I also slept in. The listing photo showed a chair in the corner, but there wasn't one. The website also promised coffee and takeaway breakfast, neither of which was available, so that claim was false. Not sure what “hygiene plus” is supposed to mean when we had just a tiny bar of the cheapest soap, two towels, and no washcloths. Very poor service, half a star at best.
