The food was a real highlight. The owner is also a chef, and every meal we had was delicious, carefully prepared, and beautifully plated. Our room was spotless and snug, the beds were so comfortable it was hard to get up, and the water pressure was perfect, which matters to me. The owners welcomed us warmly and clearly love what they do. The inn has a cozy, home-away-from-home feel. It’s a short walk to nearby businesses, yet the property feels tucked among Arnold’s big trees and peaceful. We were glad they had a pet-friendly room for our furry companion. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

After a day hiking among the fall colors and redwoods at Big Trees Park, we stayed at the Black Bear Inn, about three miles away. The complimentary breakfast, late-afternoon food, and wine were wonderful, and the owner and staff member were attentive and welcoming. The inn is quiet in the woods, with a cozy room and lovely views of the trees. Its grand main room has huge wood beams, a fireplace, bookshelves full of good reads, artwork, a piano, and views across the property. The grounds and the owners and staff were great. Everything felt comfortable and homey.

A lovely landscaped garden surrounds this beautiful custom-built house, and there’s a hot tub outside. Our room was clean and spacious, with a fridge and an amazing bathroom. Breakfast was creative and made to order, and the wine and cheese were specially ordered and nice. It’s close to Calaveras Big Trees Park and plenty of hiking, with a great room where you can simply hang out. Food choices are limited early in the week, so be ready to drive or eat early. I’d definitely stay again.

Breakfast at the Black Bear Inn was exquisite, with every dish made with care. Wendi and Bruce are wonderful hosts who make guests feel like family. The inn was impeccably clean and comfortable, a welcoming place to unwind. I’d highly recommend it for a cozy getaway in the beautiful Arnold area.

Bruce and Wendy were amazing hosts, and the property was beautiful and so well cared for. We had a wonderful holiday weekend and everything suited our family gathering perfectly. The breakfasts were great every day. I can imagine this also being a beautiful setting for a smaller mountain wedding.
