Hampton Inn Asheboro

Breakfast was fresh, hot, and had lots of options. The hotel is in a decent part of town with plenty of shops and restaurants. Our beds were comfortable, towels were clean, water pressure was great, and the shampoo and body wash smelled nice. The pillows were okay, but I’m picky and always bring my own. The TV was small, though that wasn’t a big deal. I stayed four days while in town for a wedding. Most of the staff were pleasant, but one woman at the front desk acted bothered when I asked for a new coffee pot because the one in our room was filthy, with coffee grounds in the water reservoir. There were also boogers on the wall beside the bed. Housekeeping should be trained to catch things like that, because people are gross.

Everything else was fine and I had no issues to mention, but the two kitties, “Hampton” and “Hilton,” were what really stood out. They were friendly and seemed well fed, which was great to see. I’m glad Mike, Tammy, and Evelyn look after them and the other cats I saw. Their kindness toward the cats is a reason I’d stay here again. Please keep it up!

There’s a good restaurant right across the street, and our fridge had a freezer compartment. The sink was clogged when we first arrived, but we reported it on our way to supper and it was fixed by the time we got back. The friendly young woman with pink hair checked us in, though the young man we asked about an early check-in didn’t seem interested in even checking. We skipped breakfast because at 8:30 it was crowded, with a line for food and no seats. There’s only one elevator, so expect to wait. No evening cookies, either. It’s a basic Hampton Inn that could use some refreshing, and the parking lot has no pull-through spaces.

The first thing I noticed was the elevator situation. There’s only one, and its first-floor button wasn’t attached. The desk clerk had warned me that it was a little wonky coming down, but fine going up. On the second floor, the hotel smelled of dust, mold, and pets, and I could see mold on the ceiling outside the elevator. Our room was very hot and smelled of body odor and pet urine. There were stains on the carpet, curtain, and somehow even inside the lampshade. The bathroom was okay, with only the bare minimum toiletries. The air filter units were horrible. The remote was held together with electrical tape, and the TV looked like it was from 2000. Channels took about a minute to load. When I pulled back the comforter, there were long hairs all through the bed, so I asked to change rooms. The desk clerk asked what kind of hair it was, as if that mattered, then insisted every room was full. At that same time, another guest who had just checked in came back downstairs. He had booked a two-bed room but was given a one-bed room for his family of four and told that was all they had. Breakfast was poorly managed. The host sat in the back and didn’t refill anything, so by 8:30 each morning there was no waffle batter, coffee or hot chocolate cups, cup lids, yogurt, and other items. I declined housekeeping when they knocked and later put the no-cleaning sign on the door. The male housekeeper asked again if I wanted the room cleaned; I said no and pointed to the hanger. When I returned, he’d entered anyway, emptied the trash, and left the bags hanging halfway out. Nothing was taken, but I didn’t like that he came in after I’d repeatedly said no. I was there for a weekend soccer tournament, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. The rooms are rundown, the staff aren’t customer friendly, and only the area downstairs by the desk looked clean. Don’t stay here. I’d give it no stars if that were an option.
