Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville by IHG

We picked this place for a stop on the way home because we had our senior dog with us. The front desk staff were kind, check-in was easy, and I signed the pet agreement and paid the $35 fee. The lobby and event area look beautiful after their upgrades, but the rooms feel dated and could use some attention. Ours also had a lingering odd smell, like it may have been a smoking room at some point. The patio was a nice perk, and we didn't spend much time there before our plans that evening. The main problem came at bedtime: a dog across the hall barked constantly until 10pm. The front desk called because guests had complained, and I told them it wasn't our dog and gave them the room number. I hoped they would sort it out, but the barking continued. Other people in the hallway were yelling for the dog to be quiet too. It was especially hard with our 4-year-old along. They said dogs are put on the first floor so they can be taken outside easily. If a quiet night's sleep matters, I'd ask for a second-floor room. Also, the indoor-pool photos are old, and that pool is gone. There's an outdoor pool, but it was closed for winter.

We were only there overnight, so we didn't get around to trying the restaurant, though the lobby is gorgeous. The room was spacious and smelled fresh, not like a musty hotel. Our Keurig was broken, but they brought a replacement right away since I can't function without coffee. The price was a pleasant surprise for the amenities, and we'll book again.

The location was convenient, and the hotel was nice, but Joe really made the evening for us. He was friendly and professional, gave great recommendations, and made the bar feel welcoming as soon as we sat down. His service was great all night, and he clearly enjoys looking after people.

The front desk staff were nice, but the rest of this stay was a mess. I had asked about getting a microwave in the room and was told I could request one because the hotel didn't have a kitchen. I brought microwave meals so I could manage my blood sugar, but they wouldn't provide a microwave. I ended up paying $40 per meal, which I hadn't budgeted for. They even sent me looking for a microwave that wasn't there. Before checkout, someone took my medication from the fridge. It was worth $1200, and after being out for an unknown length of time it was ruined. They also took my syringes. I had to ask for my things back, and then got into an accident driving to the hospital. I had called that morning and confirmed checkout was at 11. They'd also handled the food I'd paid good money for. On top of all that, I was made to run around dealing with annoying things during my vacation. I won't stay here again. They'll get a one-star rating from me and a lawsuit.
