My husband and I stopped in Charlotte on our way from Pittsburgh to Florida during snowmageddon, and it turned out to be a wonderful break. The room and price were both good, breakfast was included, and the staff were so helpful and nice. Sam, who valeted our car, was especially great. He offered to help pack the car without being asked, which was a real relief. It was nice to see such good manners in a young man.

The convenient location and rooftop bar were about the only positives for me. The man on the night shift was very rude when we came back to the hotel, and after checkout another staff member was rude when we called to ask whether we'd left something behind. I still haven't received my $75 deposit back. Bad customer service outweighed the location, and I don't think it's worth staying here. I'd choose somewhere else.

The hotel was hard to find, parking was expensive, and the customer service was terrible. I checked in at 8 p.m. alone with my two toddlers. Valet didn't point me toward luggage carts, so I had to haul everything on the stroller or carry it myself. The location was good and breakfast decent, but that's not much help when you need help. My 17-month-old son got locked in the bathroom. I called the front desk several times without getting help, then reached the manager through the hotel number listed online. She offered nothing useful. Thankfully I managed to pick the lock, so I didn't have to call the fire department. Nobody came to help or called afterward.

The price was great and the staff were nice, but I heard traffic constantly. The walls were so thin that the neighbor's endless coughing echoed through my room the whole stay. I'm pretty sure the man next door had untreated COPD or was suffering from the plague, but I can't know for sure. There's a lot next to the hotel, where parking is $31 a day compared with valet prices plus tips. The location is great, and needing a key card to reach your floor helped me feel safer.

We had a good stay and would consider this hotel again in Charlotte. Everything was within walking distance, the staff were friendly, the room was clean, and the noon checkout was great. Breakfast had what you'd expect from a continental spread. We found the entrance right away because it was clearly marked and well lit at night. Though some reviews mentioned safety walking beside the cars, we used the sidewalk to the street. You do cross where valet cars exit, but there was a clear crossing and hardly ever a car there when we did. We felt safe walking as a family group, though as a woman I don't think I'd feel the same alone. There were some homeless tents and people around, like in US cities. Parking is the downside: there's no self-parking, only valet at $42 a night. We planned ahead and used LAZ Mecklenberg Government Center on the adjacent corner, just steps away, for $15 all day. That worked out to $45 for three days instead of $43 a night plus tip. We came for a Hornets game, a four-minute walk away, and also went to the Midnight Diner. We walked everywhere, including the Optimist. One note: the rooftop restaurant Farenheit isn't affiliated with Hyatt and requires "sophisticated business" attire. To reach it, take the other elevator from G level. To check in, take an elevator from G to 10, where the Hyatt lobby, bar, breakfast area, gym, and other spaces are.
