A Cowslip's Belle Inn

UPDATE: The owner called to apologize and explain some extenuating circumstances. I appreciated him reaching out, and I think what went wrong for me was not typical. It’s a lovely place, conveniently close to town and the theatres, and I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. I’ve changed my rating to 4 stars because of the owner’s response. I’m sad to give a place that seems well liked only 3 stars. For a fairly expensive room, too many things fell short. We had booked two rooms, and neither had coffee or ice when we arrived. My friend found ice cube trays and some coffee pods in another room. The rooms are cute and the grounds are pretty, though they looked a bit worn. I know the buildings are old, but for the price I expected better bedding. The sheets were okay, just not high end. The first morning, the half and half provided in my room had curdled, so the coffee pods we’d scrounged up were no use and I walked into town for coffee. The location is convenient for town and the plays. My toilet kept running unless I jiggled the handle, and then the bathroom doorknob came off and left me locked inside. Luckily, my friends in the next room heard me pounding and yelling and came to help. I don’t know what I’d have done without them. There were no other guests or staff on site. The business is for sale, which might explain the lack of attention to detail. I forgot to take a photo of the bed until checkout, but it had been made when we arrived.

We stayed in the Cuckoo-Bud Suite, a comfortable space with everything tucked in efficiently, and had happy hour on our own deck overlooking the gardens. The accommodations are quietly set back behind the main street, where you can park in the provided lot and walk everywhere. The location, comfort, cleanliness, and hosts all get an A++ from me. Steve and Greg are wonderful, and their restaurant suggestions were spot on. We tried three! If you’re lucky enough to visit Ashland, don’t stay anywhere else.

The hosts are lovely, and you can walk to everything from here. The grounds are peaceful, the rooms have a charming decor, and the koi pond is worth a look. This place is amazing, you won't regret staying!
