We’ve visited a handful of times over the past 15 years and have always been happy here. This stay, the staff were friendly, the room was clean, and the bed was as comfortable as one away from home can be. There were some small signs of age and wear, like a loose bathroom door handle and weeds in the landscaping. Nothing major, and we’ll still stay here next time we’re in Ashland.

By far the worst motel we’ve stayed in, and we would never go back. We called ahead about snoring and made sure the suite had two sleeping areas. We were assured it did, but when we arrived we were told the sofa bed wasn’t really sleepable. He was right when we checked it, and his only apology was an offer to waive the cancellation fee if we wanted to leave. At that point there were no hotel rooms left in town, let alone ones with separate sleeping areas. We had to book two rooms without adjoining doors. The first was still dirty and hadn’t been made up after the last guest, and the AC in the second worked only intermittently. We went back to the front desk, and he moved us into the suite we had originally booked, then charged us the same price for a regular room next to it. There were missing or burned-out bulbs, an exhaust fan that sounded like a freight train, threadbare furniture fabric, stained carpet, and a door in one room that had to be yanked shut. I know it’s only a Motel 8, but even a modest hotel should be better than this.

The rooms were clean and everything in ours worked, but the place feels close to needing a renovation. The outlets weren’t easy to reach, the mattress wasn’t very comfortable, and we only had two pillows. The linens were clean but dated, and breakfast was skimpier than at other nearby hotels, especially when it came to protein. Staff were friendly and competent, though the rates seemed a little high compared with other local options. All in all, I’d recommend staying elsewhere.

Room 112 felt like the basement of the hotel, and the condition left me concerned about the building’s upkeep. There was a visible crack in the wall, apparently from a shift and minor collapse in the ceiling above, and it pushed on the door frame so the bathroom door barely closed. They could at least have filled and painted the wall and shaved down the top of the door. The chairs were stained, so I didn’t sit in them, and the mattress was much too springy. The carpet went straight to the wall with no molding. At least the linens were clean. The decor was way out of date, there was no flat screen TV, and the only outlet for charging my phone was an extension cord on the floor. This was by far the worst Super 8 I’ve stayed at. I own Whydham Resorts and expected more than what I found. I’ve paid less for a lot better. Super 8 shouldn’t compete just to be the cheapest, most regrettable overnight stay. It should compete on price while giving guests a better standard of comfort and bringing in more customers. I’ve fallen in love with Ashland, and I’d love to relocate and turn this place around if you need a new manager. I’ll never stay here again unless something changes. I regret getting pictures. If you stay in this room or others, please post pictures.

The staff were super nice, and the sheets were clean, but the room was the worst I’ve ever stayed in. We found blood on the wall beside the bed, feces on the toilet under the paper strip meant to show it had been cleaned, and sticky stuff on both chairs. We had to put towels down before sitting. The shower was moldy and literally coming apart, and the carpet was filthy. We were exhausted and every other hotel was full, so we stayed. We left early in the morning. Never again. They should consider retraining whoever cleans the rooms.
