The breakfast benefit for Bonvoy Elite members was especially generous compared with what I've seen at other properties. I liked how the W Aspen feels like a small, residential boutique hotel, helped by its low room count, and the staff were phenomenal. It's well located and still feels ski-in and ski-out. Since it's tucked away from the public view of the gondola, it's more private and less busy than the Little Nell. That could be a pro or con depending on what you like, but it worked for me. It also felt much more boutique than a large corporate W, and more private than the Little Nell. As a developer and designer who has Lutron Palladiom switches at home, I appreciated that the developer didn't cut corners on little details like these. They cost over $1,000 each, and that kind of touch makes the place feel more like a high-end custom home than a hotel.

What made the stay memorable was the personal service. Ms. Tawnya, the house driver with W Wheels, and Langston, the manager, were engaged, thoughtful, and proactive. They went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed, then followed up personally without being asked. I've stayed many nights at Marriott properties as a Titanium Elite, and the service at W Aspen was exceptional and worth every penny. Warm, attentive hospitality done right, and I can't wait to return. The location is hard to beat, one short block from the Aspen Mountain ski lift and right among the action, with skiing, restaurants, and nightlife nearby. The rooms were clean, modern, and stylish, with the sleek design and comfortable finishes you'd expect from a W. The whole place had an upscale, cool feel.

The property is beautiful, and we loved the look of both the public spaces and our room. The food and drinks were just what we wanted, and the daily cocktails, car service, and 24-Hr hot tub were great perks. But what made the stay really stand out was the care from the team. From the bellmen who took our bags to the gentleman at check-in, everyone was welcoming, attentive, and smiling. The front desk manager who helped us was especially personable. Whenever we ran into him, he said hello and greeted us by name. With the snow, we used the car service a lot. Every driver was kind, waited when needed, and offered suggestions for things to see and do. The team seemed well led, and we watched other guests receive the same thoughtful attention. Even though the hotel had plenty of people coming through, we felt like the only guests there. The whole experience felt personal, with staff anticipating things we might enjoy and offering thoughtful recommendations. This was our best hotel stay of the year, maybe ever. Now that we live in Colorado, we’ll be back to Aspen and will absolutely stay at the W Aspen again. It was incredibly memorable, and the kind of experience other hotels should aim for.

The price sets an expectation this hotel doesn’t meet. The rooms look IKEA modern, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable with very basic bedding. That might be easier to accept at a lower rate, but this place is incredibly pricey for the experience. We had to call every day to ask for our room to be serviced because it was still untouched by the end of the day. At breakfast, we had to hunt around for help with missing items and to pay. The sink kept backing up, and eventually the room smelled like sewage. The staff were friendly, but seemed understaffed and definitely undertrained. They advertise ski-in/ski-out, though it felt more like ski-in only. Walking is fine with me, but they shouldn’t advertise ski-out.

Santiago at the upstairs bar made my trip. He’s an amazing bartender, kind, and so accommodating. The staff were incredible too. I’m really glad I met him, and he deserves a promotion. If you’re here, ask to meet him. He’ll make your trip.
