Kasa Gaslamp Quarter San Diego

The room was okay, but the entrance and shared areas felt like a poorly managed nightclub, with sticky floors and a grimy smell. I woke up to a pile of vomit in the elevator, and part of the stairs was blocked by discarded furniture and a broken mini fridge. The hotel sits right above a nightclub, so my fourth-floor room wasn’t too bad, but I don’t think I could’ve slept on the lower floors. It feels like they’re doing the bare minimum.

Room #24 was surprisingly quiet for a place above a club, and the bed was a full/queen. The location is right in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter, with everything just outside the entrance. Seaport is about a 12-minute walk. I’d consider booking here again.

We thought the apartment itself was great, clean, stylish, and just what we expected, so that part would get 5/5 from me. But for nearly $5,000, the service was nowhere near professional. Management and maintenance get a 1, and since this was our first stay with Kasa, it’ll probably be our last. There are too many other choices at this price. The couch mattress was basically springs under thin fabric and terribly uncomfortable. Maintenance brought a nice topper, which we appreciated, but then the couch wouldn’t close properly. A leak left standing water in one bathroom and water coming up through the floorboards. It took five days to fix what looked like a simple water tank seal replacement. Maintenance didn’t seem to treat it urgently, and communication was poor throughout. Afterward, the crew left our towels thrown on the bathroom floor, as in the photos. They didn’t leave fresh ones or acknowledge the inconvenience. It felt careless and unprofessional. Our request for a 60-minute late checkout also turned into an exhausting back-and-forth. It was approved, withdrawn, approved again, withdrawn again, and finally honored.

The price was fairly affordable for the area, and the convention center was within walking distance. But even with the check-in code, it took me over an hour to get inside. Finding the place was a little tricky since it’s between two restaurants. It felt like an old dorm, and I didn’t feel as safe in the rooms as I would’ve liked. Being above a nightclub also made it somewhat noisy.
