Best Western Plus Royal Mountain Inn & Suites

I left early and moved to another nearby hotel because the basics weren’t working and nobody followed up. The TV in my room didn’t work, there was no hot water, and the breakfast was cold. The property also felt run down and poorly maintained. I reported the problems to management three times and got no response or resolution. The lack of communication and customer service was extremely frustrating. After this stay, I won’t use a Best Western again or recommend one.

The breakfast was what it should be, and room service came every three days. I didn’t have a problem with the place until the front desk called in the middle of the night to say my payment hadn’t gone through, then told me I could pay in the morning. Get someone competent to run this place.

The beds were super comfortable, and the dining and food area stayed clean and well stocked. The rooms smelled fresh and were ready for guests. It was nice to walk in and find the whole hotel smelling fresh, too. The desk clerk and the rest of the staff were welcoming and friendly. We’ll book here again if we’re in the area.

The mildew smell hit me throughout the property, from the lobby and hallways to the elevator and my room. It was so strong that it was hard to breathe comfortably or relax. When I arrived, the window was open, apparently to air the room out. There was a heavy air freshener or potpourri scent covering the odor, but after about an hour the mold smell came back and overwhelmed it. Sleeping there was almost impossible. Cleanliness was poor as well. I saw dirt and dust in corners, by the baseboards, and on furniture. The carpet looked worn and grimy, and the bathroom didn’t feel freshly cleaned. The place seemed neglected for a long time, both in basic upkeep and cleaning. I can’t believe the hotel is still operating in this condition. The air quality felt unhealthy, and I’m genuinely surprised the health department hasn’t investigated or shut it down. Something serious needs to be done about the mold, deep cleaning, and overall state of the property. Until then, I can’t recommend staying here.
