Wingate Athens

The room was spotless and roomy, with a comfortable bed, and we got one of the newly renovated rooms. We were in Athens for a wedding at the State Botanical, and the location worked out really well. Even though renovations were underway, the stay was wonderful. Check-in and checkout were easy, the front desk clerks were welcoming and helpful, and breakfast was superb. The host was friendly and kept restocking as more people arrived. We had plenty of free parking and felt safe. We were on the fourth floor in a handicap room, and the elevator was working perfectly, which was a definite plus. I can’t say enough good things and can’t wait to come back when the renovation is finished. Thanks, Wingate, for the warm hospitality!

The pool was too cold for swimming, but we really enjoyed the hot tub. Our room was amazing and the location was very good. The elevator wasn’t working, though the gentleman at the front desk offered to help with our luggage. Breakfast was amazing too.

I felt safe walking across the parking lot after dark, and I could park close to the entrance. My room at the Wingate was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The hotel is being renovated, with signs saying work would happen from 8 am - 6 pm, but I never heard a thing. I was traveling alone and would recommend it to other solo travelers.

I’ve never had a problem like this at any of the places I travel for work every other weekend. Take video of the room when you arrive and when you leave, because this place WILL nickel and dime you. Maybe the renovations have them desperate for money, but we got a text saying, “Upon inspection of the room we discovered multiple stains and damages.” We were baffled. We barely spent time there apart from working on our computers one evening, showering, and sleeping, since we were at an event most of the stay. Housekeeping came in every day, so they saw the room regularly, and we had nothing to hide. When my friend asked for proof, this was all they sent. It looked like it might be a sweat stain, but we have no idea if it was ours or already there. It was so faint that we hadn’t noticed it, even when we checked the room before leaving. The room did stay pretty warm, so maybe it was sweat, but who knows. They said they couldn’t wash it out and charged us $50. Seriously, how? If they can’t clean that, I’m concerned about how clean the linens generally are. Spend your money somewhere else. Absolutely not. My friend also said a different Wyndham in another state tried to charge her for smoking, even though she doesn’t smoke, not even outside hotels. This seems to be a common thing with the chain, and I won’t stay at another one. Do better, Wyndham.
