The restored old church gives Alecia B&B a really distinctive feel, and the property was peaceful in its quiet neighborhood while still close to the city. We felt very safe with the security measures, and the manager was welcoming and pleasant. Check-in was quick and easy. The snacks were a lovely touch, too. We loved our stay and will definitely visit again.

The room at Alecia B&B was clean and spacious, with a large, clean shower. I stayed two nights in December for a conference and had a fairly good experience. I’m pretty sure there were only two of us in the home, so I had a lot of privacy. The breakfast was basic, just Keurig coffee and packaged pastries, but there was a big selection of other snacks. As a woman on my own, there were moments when I felt a bit unsafe in the area. The door locks and the lack of people on the roads outside helped me feel more secure. Also, the converted church was set to 52 degrees in December, so it was very cold. I had to turn it up manually to 70+ degrees every night when I came back, which was fine. Just dress warm in winter and maybe bring a blanket from home. One thing that confused me when my Lyft dropped me off: the front of the building says “Baptist church,” and it looks a bit rundown outside. It’s quite clean inside and looks much better once you go in. The owner also asks for an $85 deposit outside Expedia. I’m fairly certain that isn’t allowed, though I guess it’s acceptable if she returns it within 10 days. If you’re okay with a mediocre-looking Airbnb, a cold but clean room, and have a group or a few people with you, it’s good enough. It’s also quite cheap compared with other hotels and Airbnbs nearby.

I really admire the architecture and the attention to Zen for guests. They’ve turned a church into a comfortable place without making it feel commercial. The tall ceilings and big common area are lovely. It’s an unusual place to stay, and I like it so much I’m almost tempted not to tell people about it.

We enjoyed the free snack bar, and the neighborhood was fairly quiet. The house and room were nice and clean, with a large bathroom and good hot water. Check-in was a little confusing because the check-in location is across the street from the house.

The owner simply wouldn’t respond to calls, texts, email, or messages through the website, even when we were outside in freezing weather and unable to enter because the code didn’t work. My friend and I booked for the weekend as a cheap option. We tried reaching the owner several days before the booking, calling every number online and in the check-in instructions multiple times. We texted and emailed, and my friend tried Instagram too. No response at all. We tried again 24 hours before check-in and still heard nothing. We finally got Expedia to reach the owner, who gave us an entry code, but it didn’t work. The neighborhood didn’t seem like the best either. I recommend checking Google Street View for the actual address on pegg street. It wasn’t a fun experience. We lost our money because the booking was non-refundable, even though we never stayed and had all these problems. By the time Expedia reached the owner again, it was too late. We’d left and did NOT stay there. Read the reviews carefully before booking. Edit: the owner will also be kinda petty and screenshot your review and text it to you.
