I’ve lived at Sky Lofts for about 15 months now, and I love the community overall. The people are welcoming and want the place to succeed. I’m close to work and to some of my favorite restaurants and bars, not just Lee&White. There are monthly Skylofts events now. They’re small, but fun, and it’s nice meeting neighbors. It’s a great West End location, and I hope I keep loving it here. Progress can be painfully slow, and you can see frustration building as the community settles in. There are plenty of building issues, and they’re being addressed gradually, but it will take time and money. In the past, people seemed to pick the quickest fix instead of the best one. We’ve been given timelines, and need to hold them to those. Engagement is also growing: there are 213 units, and the first HOA meeting I attended had around 15 people. Now attendance is about double. Some people complain without getting involved, though the wider community still needs to participate more. The property manager is the longest-serving one I’ve had here. He communicates openly and listens if you approach him with a frank conversation. He’s not the best manager I’ve ever dealt with, but he’s a lot better than most. Raise an issue with him, and he’ll listen, even if the answer isn’t what you hoped and things can’t happen right away. I recently asked about the exterior of building 1 and got an update, so I’ll hold him and Sky Lofts to it. I moved in last March, after the previous manager that many older reviews discuss had left. The new manager started in late fall and has been working hard to engage residents and improve the community. I also like the businesses here, including a new pizza place that’s really good and will eventually serve alcohol. The HOA is doing what it can to get things moving. If you’re considering a place in the West End, I’d look at Sky Lofts, but investigate the individual units thoroughly since they all have pros and cons. It’s a good community that can grow and adapt to the changing area, but it takes residents getting involved. After nearly a year here, I don’t regret buying.
