Golden Nugget

Edgar and the housekeeping team were the one bright spot in a terrible stay at Golden Nugget. After several room changes and hours of back and forth, they apologized, took time to prepare another room properly, and Edgar showed it to us himself. It smelled clean, the bathroom sparkled, and everything worked. They made us feel like we mattered. I'm grateful to them and only them. They deserve recognition and a raise. We checked in at 4 PM. The first room looked fine at a glance, but the tub was peeling and seemed neglected for years. The second had big rust stains all over the tub. In the third, the shower was broken, and maintenance said it couldn't be fixed until parts were ordered, so we had to move again. By about 6 PM we still hadn't settled in. The fourth room smelled bad, the sofa was sticky, and once again the tub was in terrible shape. Housekeeping and management eventually came to assess things, and that's when Edgar's team stepped in. It was nearly 9 PM before we finally had a room we could stay in. I found staff dismissive when they kept saying, “Well, this is an old building.” Old buildings can be renovated and maintained. No guest should have to shower in a dirty, neglected-looking tub. The hotel also doesn't have microwaves. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The price was decent, but I probably wouldn't return. At check-in the desk worker was a little rude, though I brushed it off. Then there was hair left in the bathroom by the previous guests. The room door only had one lock, which didn't make us feel secure, especially with walls so thin we could hear the people next door. Whenever someone in the hall opened a door, we thought they were trying to get into ours. First stay, and likely my last.

Free parking is a nice bonus, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. We've been coming here since it was the Trump Marina, and it's always a good time even when we don't win. The staff, servers, and other workers are consistently friendly and attentive. We prefer staying here over any other casino.

The room looked as advertised, and every staff member I met, from the front desk and security to valet and restaurant staff, was friendly, courteous, and professional. Still, there were clear housekeeping problems: debris on the floor, including M&Ms under the table, and a sticky brown substance on the mini fridge walls. We stayed two nights, but the room wasn't serviced. We were out from 6am to 1:30pm the first morning and again from 4:30 to 9:30pm, and the housekeeping cart was parked just outside, so we took fresh towels ourselves. The bathroom was clean. There seemed to be only two elevators running, and lines sometimes backed up outside the lobby. We walked up and down to the 15th floor twice to avoid long waits. I also had a frustrating billing issue. At check-in they charged what I still owed on the reservation plus a $100 incidentals hold, which I was told would be released at checkout if unused. At checkout, they charged the reservation balance again, and the original charge hadn't been released. A day later, I had twice what I owed plus the $100 hold pending. The front desk, reservations, and accounting couldn't do anything except tell me to wait for the charges to clear. If you pay at the hotel, plan for a double charge and possibly several days before the funds return. We chose this hotel because an event at a neighboring hotel was sold out. It served that purpose, but there's not much else nearby.
