Extended Stay America Suites - Austin - Arboretum - South

The room was clean and the facilities were decent, but they don’t do daily housekeeping. I’ve been here since Friday and it’s Tuesday morning now, with no one knocking to clean. I don’t know what their cleaning schedule is. The kitchen items for two people were pretty sparse: two plates, one skillet, one pot, one plastic cup, one spatula, a big stirring spoon, one fork, and one soup spoon.

For the low price, it was okay. The place felt safe and was accommodating, though you definitely need a strong stomach for just about anything. The location is great and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. My first room hadn’t been cleaned after the last guest, with the bedcovers undone and a dirty towel left on the bed. In the next room, one bedside lamp had a black light, there was only one towel, no TV remote, and the alarm clock didn’t work. Cheap, and I got what I paid for.

We’d booked two weeks ahead and already paid, but when we arrived they said they were overbooked and had no rooms. We went to the parking lot to call other hotels, then staff came out and said they’d figured something out. We had reserved non-smoking queen studios, but the rooms didn’t match what was advertised. The beds weren’t queen size, one toilet only flushed if we took the tank lid off, and there were no eating utensils despite the listing saying they were provided. By the time we noticed, the lobby had closed at 11, so we couldn’t get any. Both rooms reeked of cigarette smoke, and outside light shone through the window all night. We weren’t going to be in the rooms much, so we put up with it, but I will NEVER stay at this Extended Stay again.

The sheets and blankets were clean, though they had a few burn holes. The room was much cleaner than I expected, it was quiet, and I felt safe here. I was wary after reading all the bad reviews, but the hotel had already been booked for me, so I went to see for myself. Check-in was easy and the staff were really friendly. Just keep in mind, it’s not a fancy five-star place.
