Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Austin-University Area

The room was a good size and clean, and the value was great. Check-in got confusing because of a front desk mix-up, but it was sorted out. The people at the desk were very friendly. The location is okay, right by the overpasses and freeway.

The staff were really friendly and quickly sorted out my booking mistake. I’d reserved a king room for three people, but once I explained, they graciously switched us to a room with two queen beds without hesitation. Kudos to them.

The receptionist was nice and gave me plenty of advice about things to do. I walk a lot, and although places in the US aren’t really designed for that, I found an easy route straight from the hotel to 6th. There’s also a good stretch of cafes and bars about a mile away. I stayed four days. When we arrived, I was told the lifts were out, but we were on the ground floor, so it didn’t affect me. A couple days later, I knocked over a bottle and, while picking it up, found a bottle of lube and bracelets under the bed with crude words spelled out on them. The cleaner hadn’t really cleaned there.

The room was clean, which was what mattered to me, and the staff were nice. The common areas were a bit beat up and dirty, with trim missing in the elevator. They gave us some freebies from the snack shack after a minor inconvenience. It was cheap, so I’m not going to complain too much.
