Had a good stay, with helpful staff, comfy beds, and pretty clean bathrooms and showers. The bar downstairs has a cool feel, but the music gets loud, so light sleepers who turn in early might want to stay elsewhere. The AC isn’t great either, and the rooms get pretty hot and muggy. Aside from that, it’s a clean place with cozy vibes.

The biggest drawback for me was the lack of common space beyond the kitchen. Still, I had a great time at Firehouse Hostel. It’s right in the middle of downtown, kept clean, and has awesome staff. I found it easy to meet other guests. Ana took a group of us on a pub crawl and a trip to Barton Springs, and did a great job. On the crawl, she showed us around 6th street and offered several options and suggestions, making for a great night out. At Barton Springs she guided us along the river, pointing out places to use rope swings and jump in. It made for a great day with friends by the river. I’d recommend the hostel to anyone looking for a place in Austin.

I spent a week here and loved the decor, the books, and the overall feel of the place. The welcome board was a nice touch, too. The hostel is in the best location, so I could walk to most places and take buses as well. My female dorm bed was very comfortable, with a privacy curtain, shelf, and outlets. There was a female bathroom on the same floor. The biggest shower stall had the best hot water, I found. Most staff and volunteers were friendly and kind. There are a couple of places to sit and relax on the third floor, though the kitchen is where you go to meet people. Breakfast is basic but included, which is nice: bread and usually bagels with butter and cream cheese, plus coffee and tea, served from 6:30am to 11am. There were a couple of organized activities, a pub crawl and game night. More activities and a board with recommendations would be great. Overall, it was a great hostel stay. Thanks! :)

The beds were really comfortable, and the privacy curtains made a difference. Everything was clean, and the whole place has such a welcoming feel. Firehouse Hostel is right around the corner from 6th Street, with downtown close by. Kaz, Anna, Jackie, and the rest of the staff made us feel at home from day one. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in, and I’ll definitely come back.

For the price, this hostel is great value. It’s hard to find a better downtown Austin option that’s cheap, clean, safe, and well located. The owner is there in person and is very attentive and friendly.
