Mint House at The Hatchery Austin

This is a hidden gem in Austin, especially for the personal service. When I called to change our reservation, I reached a real person within seconds instead of a computer. On checkout day, Gerry came by to ask how things had gone and gave us a parting gift. There are different layouts to choose from, too. We got a lot more for our money than at a hotel, especially during ACL. 10/10, highly recommend.

I booked a week at The Hatchery well in advance for an Austin event, since I knew demand would be high. The rate seemed reasonable and I liked the location. A month later they emailed to say the price I'd paid was “obviously” wrong. I'd paid the standard nightly rate, and there hadn't been an actual pricing mistake. To keep my reservation, they wanted another $3900, almost five times the original price. They had apparently realized they could charge more that week because of demand. Having a reservation didn't seem to count for anything. They say their system made an error for that one day and that they had to cancel many bookings. If so, I don't understand why they waited a month to tell me. I hope other people whose reservations were canceled leave reviews too. Now most reasonably priced places in a good location are booked, so I have very few options. My trip is basically ruined, and I haven't even gone yet.

John and Cesar were easy to communicate with and accommodating. The place was very clean, had perfect amenities, and was private, too. Its location is great, close to both downtown and the airport. I could order snacks and water before arriving and have them waiting for me. It had everything I needed and then some. I'll be back!

Everything was great apart from a few things. The place was clean, beautiful, and check-in was easy. I had a studio on the first floor. During the day, the window curtains block the sun, but if I opened them, everyone could see into my apartment, so there was no privacy. It was also hard to find the entrance at night. A little brighter sign would help people spot the house. I understand they want it to look beautiful and fancy, but it was tough to find. The AC needs more cleaning too, I saw lots of dust. I'd give them 4 stars.
