Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Ashtabula

Breakfast was decent and the bed was comfortable, but I could hear almost everything from the room next door through the very thin walls. My first stay at this Fairfield, after trying the TownePlace Suites down the road last year, will probably be my only one. The room key stopped working, including at the fitness center, so I went back to the desk for a rekey. Staff said they'd been having ongoing problems, and I ended up waiting for maintenance to let me into my room. My late checkout request as a Titanium / Lifetime Platinum Elite member was first approved for 2 PM, then the GM declined it. That was frustrating when the hotel seemed slow and housekeeping said a large group had cancelled and “it’s pretty slow today”. As a Bonvoy member, there are choices, and TownePlace Suites nearby has given me a much better stay.

I ended up staying here because my home had been without power for an extended time. The staff were kind throughout, and all four people I dealt with were so nice. When I checked out, they asked whether my power was back. It wasn't, so they offered to let me check out later in the afternoon. I really appreciated them doing that. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

We found the room clean and spacious, with a microwave and fridge, even though we arrived without reservations. The pool was wonderful, and its water quality is checked daily under state, federal, and Marriott standards. The fitness room had state of the art treadmills, too. Breakfast had a generous mix of fresh hot and cold choices. Staff kept the food area and its equipment carefully cleaned inside and out, and sanitation procedures were thorough. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We were looking for a place near I90 with a pool and amenities, and this three year old hotel, rated top in all of Ohio, made it clear why it earned that rating.

That odd sound of the shower water hitting the metal plate on the floor was almost like music. The room itself was spacious and clean, and what started as a disappointing first impression of the front desk turned into a wonderful stay. Thank you!
