Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Bakersfield, CA

The front desk staff were really nice and helpful, and the place felt cozy. We were booked here through work. I’d looked at the reviews and was a little hesitant, but decided to give it a chance. For the price, I don’t think you’ll find anything better, and the Wi-Fi was pretty good. Breakfast was standard hotel food, but some places don’t offer anything, and this starts at 6 a.m., which works for my schedule.

We checked out the same day we arrived because the room was infested with roaches. I’d booked through Priceline and got the room with the big tub, which wasn’t worth it. You can hear everyone in the lobby even when you’re down the hall. I tried to be discreet since other guests had arrived, and hoped for a full refund. The hotel told me to contact the third party, so I did. They said the hotel had to approve it, but it never did. Shame on management. I won’t return or recommend the place. Look elsewhere, it’s not worth it. I’ll upload pictures here soon.

I booked four days while my daughter was at a wrestling tournament, but left after two nights because the mildew in the bathroom and the sticky carpets were just not okay. There was even an unfinished window ledge. The manager basically called me a liar and said I was nitpicking. I don’t think mildew in a hotel is a nitpick, though I’m just a guest and don’t work in hospitality. I guess that’s what I get for trying to save a buck. They still haven’t returned my deposit, which usually comes back right away. I think it’s retaliation for complaining.

The lobby looked nice and newly remodeled, so I hope they renovate 303 next. My family of five booked a room for five, but we were put in what seemed to be a meeting room. There was a printed paper number, 303, taped to the door, while the room label said “Meeting Room” or something like that. Inside were two odd Murphy beds, one with a big piece of broken particle board underneath, a podium, two grimy couches we didn’t want to put luggage on, and a wobbly glass desk. It was late, so my husband and I shared one Murphy bed with our youngest, and the teenagers took the other. Nobody dared try the pullout couches. Road noise came in terribly all night through the gap under the door.
