Extended Stay America Select Suites - Madison - Old Sauk Rd.

It was a pretty average stay, and expensive for just one night given the room and amenities. The staff I spoke with were nice, and the location worked for me, but that's about it. There were around 10 kids and one adult crowding the parking lot and front entrance when I arrived. Some parts of the building smelled like marijuana. With multiple lobbies, it was hard to find the right entrance, and breakfast was in a separate building, so I didn't even try it. For nearly $100 a night, the rooms need an upgrade. The beds were uncomfortable, there was no toothpaste or shampoo, the drawers had water damage, and the lights flickered. Three stars, since the experience was mid.

Handy for construction workers, with a gas station nearby that opens early and shares the location. It takes about 15-20 minutes to reach the EPIC campus, and there's an Aldi's along the way.

I stayed about a month and had no problems. It was quiet and clean, with good customer service, especially from management. They'll work with you, and I'm definitely coming back.

What stood out most was the staff, all of them friendly, helpful, and much appreciated. We stayed seven weeks at ESA and enjoyed it. The hotel would benefit from a general refurb, but the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. Nearby cafes, restaurants, and supermarkets were really useful. It's outside downtown, though driving into the center is easy enough. ESA works especially well for a long stay.
