Travelodge by Wyndham Bakersfield

At 11 p.m., the room next door became a nightmare. A man who I presume was the father was screaming and swearing, while children cried and yelled nonstop. It felt like a horror movie. We called the front desk and were told security would come, but nobody showed up. When we called again and asked if we should contact the police, the staff basically said we should call them ourselves. Completely irresponsible and unprofessional. The room itself was dirty, smelled strong, and clearly wasn’t maintained. A cockroach ran out as soon as we entered, so we asked to switch rooms, only to find another one there. The bedside lamp in that room didn’t work either. I tried to be understanding because it’s a cheap, old hotel, but there’s a limit to what’s acceptable. Guests should be able to count on basic safety, cleanliness, and staff accountability, and this place failed on all of it. Saving a little money isn’t worth the trauma. If cockroaches, foul smells, broken facilities, and staff who don’t care about guest safety don’t bother you, then sure, stay because it’s cheap. I’ll never stay here again.

The staff were very nice, and the budget price was okay, $56 or $60 with tax. But the cleaning needs work. In room 108, there were pee spots on the toilet and a huge dirty mark on the pillowcase, like it hadn’t been changed. The shower curtain also had a big dried booger on it. This was on Feb 11 2026. Please check the sheets.

My wife and I really enjoyed the spacious, nice room and comfortable king bed, and we’ll be back soon. I recommend getting a room in the front building, they’re much more updated.

I should’ve left after the first night because the place was filthy, but I was jet-lagged and went to bed. When we came back after being out for several hours the next day, there were two men in our room. The housekeeper had let them in. It was a horrible experience, and you should find somewhere safer. The only good thing was that the night front desk person was pleasant. He should be working somewhere that pays better. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever booked.
